Engineers Australia released the ARR in 1958 with the aim of providing Australian designers and analysts with the best available information on flood estimation. Engineers Australia has updated the ARR three times since 1958 and this edition of the ARR will be referred to as ARR 2016 or the 4th Edition of ARR.
ARR 2016 was developed by Engineers Australia and Geoscience Australia from 2012. Twenty four projects focusing on aspects of flood estimation were completed. These projects considered topics such as the hydraulics of urban drainage systems, spatial and temporal patterns of rainfall, channel loss models and blockage of hydraulic structures. The outcomes of the projects assisted the ARR editorial team to compile, write and edit chapters of the ARR Guideline.
